چکیده

The goal of our research is to develop a practicable vehicle for the lower limbs disabled along with improving health, which can be used in their daily life. We developed a vehicle based on a wheelchair, we call it as cycling chair. The cycling chair has two relatively big front wheels linked to the pedals with a mechanical chain to propel it, and a steering wheel at the rear part is controlled with a steering stick by the rider. Two types of controller, PD based and Physical work estimator based, are discussed and tested with a quadriparesis subject. The PD based controller aims at minimizing the electric motor assist in order to maximize the energy efficiency of the total system. And the estimator based one enhances not only the efficiency but optimality of power assistance.

Evaluation of Functional Electrical Stimulation to Assist Cycling in Four Adolescents with Spastic Cerebral Palsy

Introduction. Adolescents with cerebral palsy (CP) often have difficulty participating in exercise at intensities necessary to improve cardiovascular fitness. Functional electrical stimulation- (FES-) assisted cycling is proposed as a form of exercise for adolescents with CP. The aims of this paper were to adapt methods and assess the feasibility of applying FES cycling technology in adolescent...

Effect of detraining on bone and muscle tissue in subjects with chronic spinal cord injury after a period of electrically-stimulated cycling: a small cohort study.

OBJECTIVE To investigate adaptive changes in bone and muscle parameters in the paralysed limbs after detraining or reduced functional electrical stimulation (FES) induced cycling following high-volume FES-cycling in chronic spinal cord injury. SUBJECTS Five subjects with motor-sensory complete spinal cord injury (age 38.6 years, lesion duration 11.4 years) were included. Four subjects stopped...

Multi-objective Optimization of Hybrid Electric Vehicle Equipped with Power-split Continuously Variable Transmission

This paper aims to find the efficient state of hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) by simultaneous optimization of the control strategy and the power train. The power transmission employed in this vehicle is a power-split continuously variable transmission (CVT) which uses several fixed ratio mechanisms. After describing this transmission, the rules of electric assist control strategy are introduced....

Comparison of strategies and performance of functional electrical stimulation cycling in spinal cord injury pilots for competition in the first ever CYBATHLON

Functional Electrical Stimulation (FES) can elicit muscular contraction and restore motor function in paralyzed limbs. FES is a rehabilitation technique applied to various sensorimotor deficiencies and in different functional situations, e.g. grasping, walking, standing, transfer, cycling and rowing. FES can be combined with mechanical devices. FES-assisted cycling is mainly used in clinical en...
